Midi Moment

Hi there, long time no speak!

Apologies for the absence but I’m back, and hopefully will start posting more regularly – if I’m online enough to manage three ASOS orders in one week (whoops) – I’m pretty sure I can start blogging again.

So, I’m going to Dubai on Friday, which I’m super excited for obviously but the one downside that I didn’t consider is how unprepared my wardrobe is to be respectively covered in public spaces. The hotel should be fine, but as I intend to venture out and explore I’ll need to have my shoulders and knees covered, something that my wardrobe doesn’t really accommodate (maxis have never really been ‘my thing’). So this leads me to my topic for this post, the ‘midi‘ style – a trend that has been a staple of the fashion elite for a few years now and consequently trickled to the high street and found in all our favourite stores. But where can we find the best on the high street and how is the midi worn without looking like a large calved bag lady?

The midi skirt creates an elegant, feminine silhouette that explains why it remains a timeless classic era to era. Below are some of my favourite ‘midi-moments’ and recent features on the runway:

It’s no coincidence that all my favourite looks are feminine styles. This probably says more about my own preferences than the trend, but I strongly believe that the midi length works best in a flowing, sleek outfit as opposed to being incorporated into the normcore look. Each to their own and all but it’s designed to be elegant, let it achieve this.

The high street does a pretty good job on this one, there’s definitely the variety for whatever your style, here are some of my favourites (click the image for the link):

I have the Zara pleated number and love it, I love the simplicity. That’s my view on this trend, I think midi should be simple and ‘easy’ – think block colours in interesting fabrics, pleats or perhaps simple, classic prints. I love it when its chic and understated, and thats why I’ve only included one bodycon number –  works for some but becomes more of a body focused outfit (not to mention a VPL nightmare).

In terms of the awkward unflattering leg-chopping off situation, it has to be said that this style looks better with a heel. I’m actually not of the belief that everything looks better in heels and I’m also not the best at wearing them (just to advocate my reliability on this view) but in this case, it’s true, get yourself some height.

Big love to the midi and to you if you’re reading this,
